Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly resigned and fled the country after mass students uprising. As reports say, university students in the country started protest on 15th July due to huge discrimination in quota system. 56 percent of government jobs were allocated based on quota while rest were based on merits. Students were asking for a reform of the system.
Police started blank range fire of rubber bullets in the protest where a student named Abu Sayed were shot dead cold in the Rangpur district.
Such event ignited the movement even further. As official report says, 270+ students were killed and 2000+ were heavily injured even though we have heard news of 1200+ death across the country including children.
After week-long curfew, students haven’t stopped protesting as PM didn’t apologise for mass killing. Rather, she blamed this on the opposition party BNP and Jamat. During the curfew, there were mass crackdown on students and 9000+ were arrested. 6 coordinators from students were called to a meeting with govt officials from where they were abducted and tortured.
Students didn’t stop and kept on marching before heavy firearms, many were killed. Reportedly, Hasina stepped down as PM this morning and fled the country by a helicopter. It’s unknown now where she went. Many are saying Finland, could be India also. Mass people came to street to celebrate the event.
Army chief has announced this afternoon that an interim government will be formed soon after discussion with the President and other political party leaders. Also he asked students and people to be patient during this crisis.
