Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are at the center of a legal battle with It Ends with Us co-star Justin Baldoni. The conflict started in December 2024, when Lively accused Baldoni of harassment and launching a smear campaign against her. She claimed he behaved inappropriately during a slow dance scene on set, crossing professional boundaries and making unwelcome comments like, “It smells so good.” Baldoni’s legal team has denied the allegations, calling them false.
The situation escalated when Baldoni’s team released behind-the-scenes footage of the scene in question, claiming it showed mutual professionalism. Lively’s legal team called the release unethical, describing it as a “stunt” meant to sway public opinion and discredit her.
The couple’s lawyers argue that Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, has been giving interviews, issuing inflammatory statements, and leaking information to the press almost daily. In their view, this media campaign is a direct attempt to harm Lively’s reputation and undermine the ongoing court case.

To counter these actions, Lively and Reynolds have asked the court for a gag order to prevent further public disclosures. They had already sent a cease-and-desist letter in December 2024, asking Freedman and Baldoni to stop making defamatory and retaliatory statements. Despite this, Lively’s legal team claims the attacks have continued, putting her reputation and the integrity of the trial at risk.
In a letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman, the couple’s attorneys stated that Freedman’s actions could prejudice the jury and disrupt the legal process. They’ve also requested a hearing to address Freedman’s conduct and ensure the case proceeds fairly.
This high-profile dispute highlights the challenges of balancing legal battles and media scrutiny in Hollywood. While Baldoni’s team argues the footage proves professionalism on set, Lively’s team insists it’s part of a larger campaign to retaliate against her.
