Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951, Hussey moved to London at a young age, where her passion for acting flourished. She was discovered as a teenager by Zeffirelli, who cast her as Juliet alongside Leonard Whiting’s Romeo. At just 15 years old, Hussey brought unmatched depth and authenticity to the role, earning her a Golden Globe for Best New Star and securing her place in cinematic history.

Despite the acclaim, Romeo and Juliet was not without controversy. The film featured a scene in which both Hussey and Whiting appeared nude, raising ethical questions as both actors were under 18 at the time. Decades later, the two filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures, citing emotional distress and exploitation. The case was dismissed in 2022, yet the debate over artistic freedom versus ethical responsibility remains a key part of the film’s legacy.

In later years, Hussey found success as a voice actress, contributing to video games and animated projects, demonstrating her adaptability across mediums.

Her personal life was marked by resilience and love. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, she underwent a mastectomy and bravely faced the challenges of remission. In 2018, she revealed a new tumor had appeared, highlighting her ongoing battle with the disease. Despite these hardships, Hussey continued to inspire those around her with her strength and grace.
