New Jersey and New York

Firefighters are currently battling the Jennings Creek Wildfire along the New Jersey-New York border, which spans approximately 3,500 acres and is around 20% contained. The fire claimed the life of an 18-year-old New York State Parks employee who was struck by a falling tree while assisting firefighting efforts. Health advisories have been issued in parts of New Jersey and New York due to the smoke and poor air quality. Additionally, New Jersey has been experiencing record-breaking dry conditions, with cities like Trenton and Newark going over 40 days without measurable rain​.

Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, the Lynn Woods Reservation saw a 400-acre wildfire fueled by strong winds and dry leaves. This marks an increase in wildfire occurrences, attributed to the region’s dry spell and low humidity levels. The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services noted a 1,200% increase in fires compared to usual numbers during the autumn season.

West Coast

California

The Mountain Fire in Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles, remains a critical wildfire on the West Coast. Covering approximately 32 square miles, this blaze has destroyed close to 200 structures and led to the evacuation of thousands of residents. With containment at about 41%, fire crews continue to combat this fire, driven by the Santa Ana winds, which present challenges to containment efforts.

Nevada

A recent fire erupted near Reno, Nevada, prompting evacuations of about 3,000 residents and closures on highways. Strong winds and dry conditions allowed the fire to spread quickly, though rain provided some temporary relief.
